Shopaholic

I adore shopping. Lately I have been loving the internet. So many possibilities all at the touch of my fingertips. So here is a small glimpse into my most recent purchases.

First amongst other things from Mini Boden I got the kids these adorable matching crochet shirts. My sweet baby boy's first birthday is on Friday and I bought this whimsical Wright Dress to wear for his party. It will be an airplane party since my even more adorably hot husband loves planes and will one day fly us on our romantic getaways.Plus little boys and airplanes seem so fittingly perfect together. While I was at Anthro let me just show you this perfect little number that I am already purchasing for my birthday or Minnie's birthday or just to be pretty wearing. I am not sure but I knew I HAD to have it!!

And speaking of Minnie's Birthday. She will be three and we are doing a "Fancy Nancy" tea party of sorts. I say of sorts because I will do my own version of Fancy without the Nancy and add a lot more Lilly! Yay I love Lilly!!!! I am going crazy over all the Minnie and Mommy looks and I am really hoping they bring back some of the boy rompers so that all of my babies and I can match. I have already picked out these two happies for our Mommy and Me Art Classes this Spring!! Can't forget the McKim sandals!! We were going to wear matching Minnie Lilly's to her party but I felt it was too "everyday" so instead I found the most perfect dress fit for a princess by Halabaloo at Neiman's. Once it arrives I'll put it on my little princess and post some pics.
Happy Shopping to All!!!!

Dreams & Something More

Everyday my husband dives deeper into his career. Sometimes I feel as soon as I catch up he is AGAIN moving ahead. Expecting me to jump aboard his ship. I knew when we were dating that he wanted more than the 8-5 job. He would endlessly tell me about his plans to work around the world. And Entrepreneurial Management and International Business was his major with a minor in Economics. He wanted the world and I was in love. His sweet southern charm and handsomely gorgeous looks didn’t hurt either. Being the idealist he is as well as I, it was perfectly fitting that I was in complete awe of him and his big dreams- whatever they were. Besides we were in college and “the future” seemed so far away.

Well the future came knocking on our door much sooner than expected. Four months after my college graduation our love had exploded into a “love baby” and she was due in 7 1/2 short months. My husband jumped into the family business to keep us and my dream to be a stay at home mom alive. Always optimistic and driven he started to fancy the idea of something more.

I ‘m not sure when it happened or how but we took the leap. And on December 7th I officially signed my life over to my husband's investment with multi-family dwellings. We have come a long way. Tears of joy, frustration, triumph and understanding. The scary part is this is only the beginning. For the first year of our marriage I held him back. I’m not sure why but I was in fear. Fear of his dreams and terrified of what changes they would bring. Probably more scared than anything that I would become my mother. But when you marry someone you marry their dream. For better or worse. Big dreams and all.

Meg Cadoux Hirshberg is a journalist and the wife of president and CEO of Stoneyfield Yogurt. She writes a monthly column for Inc. Magazine. I stumbled across one of her articles and have since become a cult follower. Her first article, titled, “Hitched to Someone Else’s Dream”, really hit home with my heart. I found myself crying while reading. She has become my new best friend. Her words of wisdom and comfort helped me bring my husband’s dreams and our life together full circle.

Much like Meg’s husband, my husband’s ultimate goal is not financial security. It’s personal. It’s the excitement in number crunching, the deal hunt, the idea. It’s hard having two young babies and living in a city away from my family. Especially when he has to travel to check out properties or gets emergency calls because the plumbing is leaking.

It’s not easy but it’s never going to be. It is not supposed to. It’s the dance of the journey, and the adventure that makes marriage and love so sweet. It’s the giving and taking. The compromise and commitment. The big scary dreams that make you blindly bound in love.I love my husband and our career more today than yesterday. There really isn’t a choice. Having a business of your own is like having a child. And so we are bound together by his business, our two babies, a pledge of commitment and a whole lot of love.

I have decided to start a monthly post following Meg’s most recent article in Inc for all of you husbands and wives out there in the midst of marriage-career muck. Don’t stop believing. Buck your seat belt. I know it’s going to be a fun ride.

So, do you know what's in your food?

It is no secret that I am a health nut. From an early age my parents referred to my meals as "moss and nuts". Weird, I know but true. It started really because I just love the taste of fresh raw fruits and vegetables. I'm a big runner & totally into holistic health. I am really intuitive with my body and believe in feeding it wholesome foods filled with prana. What ever I crave I give myself, and usually it's something surprisingly healthy. Prana foods are alive, full of life, energy, freshness and organic.

Right before I became pregnant with baby #2, the boy (my husband) and I were chatting it up about this show Dr. Oz had on about "The Evolution Diet". I started learning about the body and the effects of food on it. All this lead to my find "clean eating". It was soo me!!!! But I needed something to really push me into a total cleanie. Bam- positive prego test!

What is Clean Eating you ask. PURE deliciouness! It is whole, natural, NON PROSSESSED foods. No preservatives and no white sugar or startches. I became obbsessed with reading all the labels on all of the things I bought our family. But it was so time consuming and very annoying, esp with 2 1/2 yr daughter in tow. Coincidentally, our family was the proud general contractor for a new grocery store in town, Earth Fare. I was skeptical, but open minded.

Well Earth Fare's doors have been open for almost a year now and I can't believe I ever lived without them. They read the labels for you so you don't have to. They also try to use as much local goods as possible. Earth Fare sells foods that are as close to the ground as it gets. Products with these ingredients/processes will not be sold at Earth Fare:
1 NO hydrogenated or partially-hydrogenated oils (added trans-fats)
2 NO high fructose corn syrup
3 NO artificial colors, flavors, sweeteners & preservatives
4 NO antibiotics, synthetic growth hormones or animal by-products in the feed (fresh meats & milk)
5 NO bleached or bromated flour
6 NO irradiated single source spices, produce or meat
7 NO animal by-products in pet foods
8 NO inhumane treatment of the animals providing us with dairy, meat and eggs

Seriously, the food from this place tastes soooo much better than anything you buy at that K place. Yuckkkk. Well I am off to grocery shop at my favorite place. They are promoting the book and film, "Food, Inc." and I am going to pick up a copy to read and watch tonight. Will post reviews later. Until then, happy eating to you.

Heartstrings

I love the feel of them in arms. Always have. Even as a six year old child with my youngest baby sister in my arms. That weight, the warmth, the occasonal little movement or squirm or eye peek from their sweet sweet dream. Babies are truly a miracle and a blessing. Angels.
